Problem-Based Geometry Course for Secondary Teachers

(3 semester hours) + 10 hours of school-based work

This course helps students make connections between the mathematical content areas of transformational geometry and linear and abstract algebra. Course topics include: concepts in Euclidean Geometry, similarity, transformations, coordinate geometry, vectors, complex numbers in geometric transformations, surface area, volume, and spherical geometry. An important aspect of this course is the use of dynamic geometry environments such as Geometer’s Sketchpad™ (GSP) and Cabri Geometry™. Students are introduced to basic learning theory for geometric concepts as well as learning mathematics content though cooperative learning, guided discovery, and inquiry models.
